NEWS FLASH: Man arrested after stabbing incident as MP Sir David Amess meets constituents in Leigh

Police were called to reports of a stabbing in Eastwood Road North, Leigh-on-Sea shortly after 12.05pm today (Friday October 15) where Southend MP Sir David Amess MP was meeting with constituents.

Officers arrested a man and recovered a knife.

He is currently in custody.

ADDITIONAL: Sir David, 69, the MP for Southend West is thought to have been attacked during a surgery at Belfairs Methodist Church.

It is unclear what injuries he has sustained.

Reports suggest that Sir David was stabbed several times and an air ambulance has been sent to the scene where armed police are also on guard.
