Nico wins it late for Old Boys

Old Southendian Reserves 2-1 May & Baker Reserves

Nico Dubouchet provided a late winner as Old Southendian Reserves returned to ProKit UK Essex Olympian League Division Two action with a narrow victory over a competitive May & Baker side at Garon Park.

Having waited more than four months for a return to action, the two sides provided a decent contest.

Following a goalless opening period, Tom Adams profited from close range after Lewis Caplin had fashioned an opening from the flank five minutes after the restart.

May & Baker responded with a well-struck equaliser from the edge of the box from Jesse Martin midway through the half. However, the home side won it when Dubouchet’s sweet volley from twenty yards nestled in the back of the net with time running out.

“It was a solid performance from us – we looked the stronger team today,” boss, Dave Manley told Yellow Sport.

“We focused on playing a more direct style of game and this worked well.

It was a superb volley from Nico to give us all three points but it was just great to get back out there playing.”

Old Southendian Reserves return to ProKit UK Essex Olympian League Division Two action on Saturday, April 10 when they take on Rochford Town at Garon Park (2:30pm).
