No conundrums for Ward’s Saxons

Southend Saxons v Norwich – London One North – Warners Bridge – Saturday (3pm) – Preview and Team News

Head of Rugby, Josh Ward insisted that his Southend Saxons side are well equipped for the London One North challenge provided by Norwich at Warners Bridge on Saturday afternoon (3pm).

The Saxons overcame dreadful weather conditions and a determined Old Haberdashers outfit to return to winning ways last weekend. And despite one or two obstacles, Ward thinks his group are in a good place right now.

“We’ve had a turbulent week in terms of a few injuries that we’ve had to monitor,” he told Yellow Sport.

“We’ve had a few changes that needed to be made. they are quite exciting changes with guys getting deserved opportunities as a result.”

The Saxons chief expanded on work carried out on the training ground, adding: “On Tuesday, we had a set-piece session. We mixed it up a bit and that was incredibly productive. This was followed by a really good team session on Thursday – Saxons and Priors squads. The Priors are off to Rochford on Saturday while Norwich are here for the Saxons.

“We want to make sure the focus is on enforcing our game this week. Dictating how the game goes, as opposed to being passive. We’ve had a really positive mindset going into this one.”

Ward concluded: “The league table hasn’t even been mentioned. We know, first hand, that anyone can beat anyone in this league, regardless of where you are. We want to be ruthless and put in a really good performance to back it up.

“A different kind of performance from last week, where we had to dig in to come away with the points at Old Haberdashers. It’s part two of the block of four games for us. We must treat it with the respect it needs and get a professional job done on Saturday.”
