Colchester United avoided an upset by breezing into the second round of the Emirates FA Cup in front of a global television audience.

The U’s tie at Pitching In Isthmian League North AFC Sudbury was beamed to seventy countries, with the North Essex side providing a professional performance to see off their non-league neighbours.

The U’s led 2-0 at the break. Brendan Wiredu and Freddie Sears, the men on target for Hayden Mullins’ side.

Colchester continued to dominate after the restart. Fulham loanee, Sylvester Jasper provided a stylish finish, while their latest acquisition, Shawn McCoulsky added a fourth in stoppage-time to confirm their passage.

Colchester United now turn their attention to the Papa John’s Trophy where they face Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Tuesday, November 9 (7:45pm).
