Vanarama National League
Southend United fell to a 1-0 defeat to Gateshead at Roots Hall after Marcus Dinanga’s 58th minute winner saw the Heed move back into the play-off places. Blues twice went close in the final stages with Harry Cardwell hitting the post before Nathan Ralph’s header struck the crossbar following a corner just after. The loss, their third in four matches, now leaves Southend just two points above the relegation zone.
With all the goals coming in the first half, Dagenham & Redbridge came away with the points after a 2-1 win at Rochdale with Inih Effiong netting twice (including one from the spot) – either side of substitute Tyrese Sinclair’s sublime strike for Dale, as Ben Strevens’ side climbed to 14th in the table, five points off the relegation places.
Vanarama National League South
Despite Charlie Ruff putting Chelmsford City 1-0 up in the 36th minute, the high-flying Clarets fell to a 2-1 defeat at relegation threatened Havant & Waterlooville. Ryan Seager equalised for Hawks in the 74th minute before Jamie Roberts spot kick won the game for the hosts two minutes from time.
Braintree’s 3-0 win over bottom of the table Dover Athletic at the Rare Breeds Meat Co. Stadium lifted the Iron into tenth place, just three points outside the play-offs. Jayden Davis, Ben Tompkins and Aaron Blair all scoring in the first half.
Aveley fell to their first defeat of 2024 after a 3-0 home loss to in form Worthing, with Ollie Pearce (two, including a penalty) and Tommy Willard the scorers.
Pitching-In Isthmian League Premier Division
In Daryl McMahon’s first game as Hornchurch boss, the Urchins extended their lead at the top of the table to nine points with Femi Akinwande’s 55th minute strike proving to be the winner in their 1-0 victory over Cheshunt at Bridge Avenue.
Goals by Marcus Wyllie (2) and Reece Beckles-Richards saw Enfield Town through to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Canvey Island at the Movie Starr Stadium. The result ended a run of five games without a win for Town.
Despite taking the lead through Pedro Carvalho just before the half hour mark, goals by Charlie Hestor-Cook in the 49th minute and Elliott Romain ten minutes from time saw Horsham through to a 2-1 win over Hashtag Utd at the Len Salmon Stadium.
With goals by David Smith, from the penalty spot, and Kane Penn giving them a 2-0 lead at half time, lowly Folkestone Invicta shocked third placed Billericay Town with a 2-1 win at New Lodge. Frankie Merrifield netted Billericay Town’s consolation deep into stoppage time at the end of the match.
Potters Bar Town came back from 3-2 down to take the points in a thrilling 4-3 win over struggling Concord Rangers at the Lantern Stadium.
Pitching-In Isthmian League North
Basildon United enjoyed a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Witham Town with Samir Ali (2) Clyde Semazzi and Callum Fitzer all on target.
A hat-trick by Cemal Ramadan led Bury Town to a comprehensive 4-1 win at Brightlingsea Regent, sub-Ed Upson was also on target to cap a fine win for his side, who now stand only six points behind leaders Lowestoft Town. Kojo Apenteng netted for Regent.
George Smith’s second half headed goal was enough to see Maldon & Tiptree through to a 1-0 win at Enfield.
Heybridge Swifts, who fell behind to Panny Boxer’s 47th minute goal came from behind to take the points in a 2-1 win over ten-man New Salamis, who had Tommy Boxer sent off just past the hour mark. Jack Addington restored parity in the 65th minute before Kieran Jones converted from the spot in the last minute to seal the points.
Tom Bullard’s first half goal saw Felixstowe & Walton United through to a 1-0 win at Redbridge to extend their unbeaten run to five games. The result leaves them in second place, just three points behind leaders Lowestoft Town.
Bowers & Pitsea, with goals from Solomon Addy (2) and Benas Valvada defeated Stowmarket Town 3-1 – the hosts having taken an early lead in only the third minute through Ewan Gordon-Clement.
Having taken the lead in only the eighth minute of the game through Josh Harvey, Wroxham had to settle for a point after Grays Athletic debutant Elliot Sartorious netted a last-minute equaliser as the game finished 1-1 at Chadfields.
With all four goals being scored in the first half, Walthamstow and Lowestoft Town shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at Wadham Lodge. Bilal Sayoud gave Stow the lead in the second minute before the Trawler Boys brought the scores level two minutes later through Harvey Sayer. Adam Hipperson made it 2-1 to the league leaders in the 17th minute only for Kymani Thomas to make it 2-2 just before the half hour mark.
Brentwood Town came from 2-1 down to take the points in a late 3-2 win at Gorleston. Joe Jefford opened the scoring for the hosts before Mekhi McKenzie’s equaliser just prior to half time. Ryan Curtis restored Gorleston’s lead in the 53rd minute before Shad Ngandu made it 2-2 eleven minutes later. Jonathan Nzengo netted a spectacular twenty-five-yard winner for Blues in the 84th minute.
Essex Senior League Premier Division
Jay Leader and Adam Topley were on target in a 2-1 win for Hullbridge Sports against Saffron Walden Town at Catons Lane.
ProKit UK Essex Olympian Football League
ProKit UK Essex Olympian League leaders Rayleigh Town, with Owen Barratt netting twice, overcame Rayleigh Town 2-1 at the Aspect Arena. Luke Wilson scored the visitor’s goal.
Billy Duke netted for Old Chelmsfordians with Wayne Semanshia on target for Kelvedon Hatch as the teams shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at Old Chelmsfordians Sports & Social Club.
Substitute Callum Ludliam scored both goals in Old Southendians 2-0 win at Shenfield Association.
Robbie Farrell’s hat-trick and a further goal by sub-Jack Williamson saw Sungate through to a 4-3 victory over Toby, for whom Luke Jones (2) and Jake Jones were the scorers.
Harry Kateley netted twice and Kieran Smith was also on target in Springfield’s 3-2 win over Catholic Utd at the Len Forge Centre.
