Nuno is coy on Kane but insistent that Spurs are ready for City

Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester City – Premier League – Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – Sunday (4:30pm) – Preview

Nuno Espirito Santo did his utmost to focus on the task at hand as opposed to allowing his pre-Manchester City press conference to evolve into talk of a ‘Harry Kane derby’.

City has been heavily linked with a move for the Lilywhites talismanic frontman. However, the North Londoners chief confirmed that the England skipper is still in the building after returning to N17 following his much-publicised extended break.

“Harry joined the group today, he trained, we had a talk,” Nuno explained.

Of course, it’s a private conversation but everything is OK.

“He’s preparing himself, like Bryan, like Romero, players that joined us later – we have to be careful but everything is OK.

Nuno stopped short of confirming the players’ availability for the clash, adding: We still have the session of tomorrow to decide, like I mention to you Romero, Bryan, Harry – players that don’t have too much and too many sessions with us. We have to think and we still have the day or tomorrow to make decisions.”

Spurs face a formidable task against the reigning Premier League champions. The Spurs boss insisting there is no perfect scenario when facing the title favourites: “It’s the time the schedule says,” he added.

“We have to play all the opponents of the Premier League two times, two times. We start with City – and it’s about us. We know we are going to face a tough opponent, a quality opponent but it’s about us.

“The things we want to do in the game, the way we want and how we want to compete. We are focused on ourselves and trying to be a good team.”

On City, Nuno said: “We expect a tough match, very tough match. Of course, quality players and a very talented squad.

“We expect a tough match like all the matches in the Premier League. All the squads have very good players.”
