Off-colour Colchester continue to slide

Morecambe 3-0 Colchester United

Colchester United’s recent poor run of form continued as they were beaten by three unanswered goals by Sky bet League Two play-off hopefuls, Morecambe, at the Mazuma Stadium.

The U’s began the game brightly but fell behind to Adam Phillips’ goal in first-half stoppage-time.

And things went from bad to worse, when Toumani Diagouraga added a second just before the hour mark

Any slim chance of a Colchester revival was quashed when skipper Harry Pell saw red for an off the ball incident. John O’Sullivan rubbed salt into an already gaping wound with Morecambe’s third ten minutes from time.

Steve Ball’s men are now without a win in seven and have slumped to fifteenth in the table.

Colchester United return to Sky Bet League Two action on Tuesday, January 26, when they take on Stevenage at the Lamex Stadium (7pm).
