O’Hara happy with Billericay’s progress

Non-league round-up

Jamie O’Hara had seen enough of his side in the opening hour to suggest they are well on course for a successful Vanartama National League South campaign, despite a Queen’s Park Rangers side’ largely consisting of their under 23 side, recovering a three-goal deficit to draw 3-3 at New Lodge.

Goals from Joe Felix, Jake Robinson and Ben Worman fired teh Blues into a commanding lead before a clutch of substitutions perhaps unsettled the rhythm as O’Hara ran the rule over a number of his squad.

“The result is irrelevant,” O’Hara explained to www.billericaytownfc.co.uk.

“It’s about fitness for the boys. Getting them to play the way we want them to play – the first-half was the main team – the team we are looking at and I thought they looked absolutely fantastic.”

Louie Hunt netted twice while Jamie Salmon, Tobi Joseph and Elliott Ronto were all on target as Mark Bentley’s Canvey Island side recorded a comfortable 5-0 warm-up win at Southern League Division One Central side Welwyn Garden City. Meanwhile, Dagenham & Redbridge boss, Daryl McMahon described his side’s display at Ebbsfleet United as “a very good performance” – Paul McCallum netted before the break for the Daggers, while Reece Grant scored twice in a 3-1 victory over McMahon’s old club.

Warner was injured whilst netting Bowers third goal at Crown Meadow. Earlier Quinten Monville and Chinedu McKenzie had found the net for the visitors. It was later confirmed that Warner had dislocated his ankle as well as broken Tibia and Fibula. The popular Bowers man will no undergo surgery, where he will be fitted with a plate and pins.

Elsewhere, former Arsenal and Queen’s Park Rangers frontman, Jay Emmanuel Thomas, featured for Hullbridge Sports in their win over Coggeshall United.

Sports welcomed fans back to Lower Road for the first time since lockdown and they were treated to a decent display from Darren Mannings charges. Kieran Bishop scored twice, the second from the penalty spot, while debutant George Cocklin was also on the mark in a 3-1 triumph.

Tilbury and Cray Valley PM played out a goalless draw at Chadfields, while Charncey Dash netted Walthamstow’s goal in a 1-1 draw with Enfield Town. Maldon & Tiptree looked in good nick, beating local rivals, Heybridge Swifts 6-2 at Scraley Road – Mason (2), Barnwell, Kemp and two further goals from trialists confirming the win – Jack Adlington bagging both for the home side.

Concord Rangers were handed a boosted with the news they will play their Buildbase FA Trophy semi-final tie with Halesowen Town as a one-off fixture at the Aspect Arena next weekend.
