Old Southendian & Southchurch recorded a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Horndon on the Hill in their opening Essex League Division Three fixture of the new season.

Matthew Austin took five for 29, while there were three wickets for Dylan Batt and two for Hardik Varma as the fragile home side were skittled inside twenty-one overs for just 77.

The Old Boys reached their meagre target inside thirteen overs, with Hemanth Kumar Venkatakrishna unbeaten on 61*.

Mohammad Aqeel hit 64 off 58 balls as Old Southendian & Southchurch’s second team saw off their Hadleigh & Thundersley counterpart at the Peter Butler Oval, Garon Park.

Alexander Gilbert passed fifty for the visitors, while Sam Hodgson and Cooper Fawcett each took three wickets for the hosts.

Tom Clarke’s 65 went towards Old Southendian & Southchurch’s third 25-run victory over Horndon On The Hill 3rd. Meanwhile, the Olds Boys 5th team completed a hat-trick of club victories over Horndon on the Hill. Robert Laird was unbeaten on 67 as the Hornson 5ths were beaten at Thurrock Rugby Ground.
