Old Southendian & Southchurch suffered back-to-back Essex League Division Three defeats as Ilford-based Aztecs won by 78 runs at the Peter Butler Oval, Garon Park.

Put into bat, the visitors posted a sizable 324 for five. Burhan Mahmood led the way with an impressive knock of 116 off 93 balls, while Dipayan Paul hit 93 and Angelo Jayasinghe 69* – Ahsan Yousaf, Dylan Batt and Ross Casson amongst the wickets on what was a tough day for the Old Boys attack.

It didn’t get any easier for the home side. Dipayan followed his batting performance by starring with the ball, returning bowling figures of 10-0-48-3. Meanwhile, Angelo Jayasinghe, Kanchana Dassanayake (both with two for 32) and Kalim Khan (two for 51) oversaw the visitor’s success.

Wicketkeeper/batter Matthew Darvill carried the Old Boys fight with 52 from 76, while Max Craddock (49) and Casson (45) fell just short of half-centuries.

Old Southendian & Southchurch 2nd recorded a comfortable 90-run Division Eight triumph over Brentwood, with bowlers James Clarke (7-2-25-4_ and Henry Williams (2.2-0-6-3) overseeing a swift conclusion.

Old Southendian & Southchurch 3rd edged out their Westcliff-On-Sea counterparts by 19 runs in a Division Thirteen encounter at Shoebury Park. Tom Clarke impressed with the ball, returning 9-3-19-4.

Old Southendian & Southchurch 4th were in sparkling Division Eighteen form, thrashing Hutton 5th by 156 runs at Shoebury Garrison.

Declan Dear batted superbly and scored an unbeaten 108* – Chris Dove had three for 20, while Theo Cornwell and Toby Owen took two apiece for the winners.

Old Southendian & Southchurch 5th slipped to an 80-run Division Eighteen defeat to Benfleet at Smallgains Park. Robert Laird top-scored with 28.
