Old Southendian 2-1 Canning Town
OLD SOUTHENDIAN boosted their chances of avoiding relegation with a narrow 2-1 ProKit UK Essex Olympian Premier Division victory over fellow strugglers. Canning Town at Garon Park.
Both sides did well to provide a competitive game in difficult weather conditions. Harry Dacosta gave the Old Boys a handy advantage five minutes before the break. However, the North Londoners levelled after the break.
Craig Paton settled the game in favour of the Seasiders, neatly finishing after finding himself in a one-on-one situation.
Speaking to Yellow Sport after the match, Old Southendian boss, Connor Lane, said: “I’m really pleased how the team responded from last weeks defeat to earn out second league win of the season.
“We lost two players late on. I was really proud of Harry, stepping in and bagging a fantastic goal on his first-team debut.
“We had to shuffle the pack but were really solid. The team worked their socks off to get three important points. We got the first goal – it was important to stay in the game until half time. In comparison to our previous games, we performed confidently in the second half and were not fazed after Canning Town got themselves back in the game.”
