Old Southendian Reserves 1-3 Herongate Athletic
Old Southendian Reserves slipped out of the Essex Premier Cup despite producing a reasonable performance against a Herongate Athletic side that ply their trade a division higher in the Essex Olympian League.
Old Boys Assistant Manager, Rob Johnson insisted his side deserved better: “It was disappointing because I didn’t think that was a fair reflection of the game,” he told Yellow Sport.
“Herongate certainly had their periods on top but so did we. Two of their goals came from long throws which we should have dealt with but didn’t.
“We had two one-on-ones and didn’t put them away as well as a free header that hit the bar from six yards out.”
Sam Jones netted late in the game to give the scoreline a little respectability – Antoine Fontaine and Robbie Farrell
amongst the goals for the visitors.
Johnson added: “We held our own against a side from the division above. I was really happy about that.
“Had we been a bit more clinical in both boxes, we could have got something out of the game?
“But the lads put a right shift in, We have plenty to build on in the league next week.”
