Old Boys edge it thanks to Ludlaim’s brace

Old Southendian v Leigh Ramblers – Essex Olympian League Premier Division – Garon Park – Report

Old Southendian 2-1 Leigh Ramblers

Old Southendian closed the gap on the Essex Olympian League Premier Division top two with a hard-fought 2-1 triumph over Leigh Ramblers at Garon Park.

Callum Ludlaim scored twice for the home side as they earned their tenth victory from fifteen league outings, while Tommy Pinkerton responded for the Ramblers.: “We’ve had to work really hard but these boys usually find a way,” Old Boys boss, Altan Ali told Yellow Sport.

“I think we realise that we are underdogs in the title race. We’ve just got to keep winning and see where it takes us.

“We’ve got an opportunity to recharge the batteries with a couple of weeks off over the festive period. We are in touch with the top two. We’d rather they worried about us instead of the other way around.”

Elsewhere, it proved to be a difficult afternoon for Old Southend’s Reserve team, who slumped to a heavy 8-2 defeat at the hands of their Hutton counterparts at Polo Field.

The result left the Old Boys a single point above the dropzone after thirteen games.
