Old Boys edge out Shoebury Town

Shoebury Town 1-2 Old Southendian Reserves

Old Southendian Reserves took the Essex Olympian League Division two points following a hard-fought affair with a young, energetic Shoebury Town side at Cupids County Club.

Town enjoyed the better of early exchanges. However, it was the Old Boys who made the breakthrough. Nico Dubouchet raced onto a long ball forward before rounding the hosts’ keeper and rolling into an empty net.

A goal to the good, the Old Boys began to play with a little more freedom. Jack Cripps doubled their lead, beating two defenders before sending a thumping effort high into the top corner of the net.

But Shoebury displayed plenty of character. Garry Johnson pulled one back with twenty minutes to go and only a late penalty save from Old Boys keeper George Dugdale preserved their lead and ultimately earned the points.

Speaking after the game, Old Boys’ Josh Bambury told Yellow Sport: It was a great performance against a tough opponent.

“There’s more work to be done on fitness but it has been a great start to our league campaign.”
