Bishop’s Stortford Swifts v Old Southendian – Essex Olympian League Premier Division – Silver Leys – Report

Bishop’s Stortford Swifts 2-3 Old Southendian

Old Southendian moved into second place in the Essex Olympian League Premier Division table following a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Bishop’s Stortford Swifts at Silver Leys.

The visitors faced a stubborn opponent and found themselves a goal behind before Neil Maclean equalised spectacularly.

Connor Burrows and Callum Ludlaim found the net to give the Old Boys an unassailable advantage, with the Swifts reducing their margin of victory in the final moments.

The victory pushed the Garon Park-based club within five points of leaders Rayleigh Town, who won 5-0 at fellow title contenders Sungate.

Meanwhile, Old Southendian Reserves remain embroiled in a desperate bid to avoid relegation after suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat at the hands of their Wakerings Sports counterparts at Garon Park.

Lewis Brown netted for the Old Boys, while Nathan Roche scored the all-important strikes for the Villagers.

The result left Sports in ninth place, while Old Southendian remains one place above the relegation zone on goal difference.
