Old Southendian v Rayleigh Town – Essex Olympian Football League Cup Semi-Final – Garon Park – Report

Old Southendian 2-1 Rayleigh Town

Old Southendian dramatically came from behind to record an Essex Olympian Football League Cup Semi-Final victory over Premier Division champions Rayleigh Town at Garon Park.

Trailing to Ben Baxter’s goal for the visitors, the Old Boys hit back with twenty minutes remaining through Connor Burrows before leading marksman Mitch Ali sent his side through to a showpiece final with Wakering Sportsor Corinthians at Heybridge Swifts’ Scraley Road stadium on Tuesday, May 14, by snatching the winner twelve minutes from time.

“We thoroughly deserved it,” Old Boys boss, Altan Ali told Yellow Sport.

“We didn’t deserve to be behind. The lads responded brilliantly. e will do our utmost to win the cup and rubberstamp a satisfactory and successful season.”

Ali added: “As much, as we realised we were the underdogs in the title chase, we fancied ourselves tonight, especially having beaten Rayleigh in the league recently.

“But you’ve got to give them credit as well. They are a very good side. These are the games you want to be involved in and if you are winning them, you won’t be far away from honours.”
