Old Boys good form continues as Galleywood are edged out at Garon Park

Old Southendian v Galleywood – Essex Olympian League Premier Division – Garon Park – Report

Old Southendian 2-1 Galleywood

Old Southendian continued their climb up the Essex Olympian League Premier Division table with a hard-fought 2-1 success over a well-drilled Galleywood side at Garon Park.

Boss, Altan Ali was satisfied with his sides first-half performance “We defended well during the opening period. The shape was excellent,” he enthused.

And his side hit the front when Sam Jones finished a superb flowing move to hand the Old Boys the lead – Nick Henesy the ultimate orchestrator.

The home side lost goalscorer Jones and leading marksman, Callum Ludlaim to injury which unsettled them allowing Galleywood a foothold – Matthew Buckingham restoring parity from the penalty spot.

But the Old Boys were to continue their recent good form. Mattias Tonking was on hand to profit from Ryan Stillwell’s toil to confirm their fifth victory of the campaign, lifting them into seventh place, but just six points behind leaders, Ongar Town.

“Ali added: “It was a really good win. We are building a little bit of momentum now having won three on the bounce.

“We face Harold Wood Athletic at home next week. They are fighting for their lives – We are expecting another tough encounter.”
