Old Boys improve but are rumbled by Ramblers

Old Southendian v Leigh Ramblers – Essex Olympian League Premier Division – Garon Park – Report

Old Southendian 1-3 Leigh Ramblers

Old Southendian boss, Altan Ali recognised the improvement in his side despite witnessing them slip to a 3-1 Essex Olympian League Premier Division defeat at the hands of Leigh Ramblers at Garon Park.

“It was a much better performance – I think we deserved something out of the game,” Ali told Yellow Sport.

“We missed a decent chance to take the lead and then went behind, against the run of play.

“In fairness,m they scored a decent second goal just after half-time. But then it was all us.”

A soggy scene – The crowd look on as Old Southendian took on Leigh Ramblers in the Essex Olympian League Premier Division at Garon Park

Mitchell Ali pulled one back for the home side with ten minutes to go, but the Ramblers sealed it in the final seconds with a killer third. Matthew Brinklow, Barv Waiwaiku and Nathan Dewberry netted the visitors’ goals in the victory.

Ali added: “The game could have gone either way. We are disappointed to have been beaten but we have to accept that at key moments we are not quite there yet.”
