Old Southendian 1st v Old Southendian 2nd – Garon Park – Saturday 2pm – Preview
Connor Lane and David Manley both believe Old Southendian’s respective ProKit UK Essex Olympian League teams are progressing nicely ahead of the new season.
The Old Boys are to stage an inter-club warm-up fixture at their Garon Park ground on Saturday, with both bosses satisfied with what they have seen since the players returned to training following the lifting of lockdown restrictions.
“In comparison to the previous two seasons, we have prepared better than ever,” first team manager, Connor Lane, told Yellow Sport.
“We’ve had an earlier start to our pre-season and extended training sessions to twice a week, with a full-time coach in Paul.
“Off the pitch, the club has progressed hugely. On it, we have our squad in place and have selected a tough list of friendly matches to set us up for the best possible start to ahead of the league season.
“We have managed to retain almost all of our players whilst bringing in a few to bolster the squad who have settled in perfectly.’
Meanwhile, second-string boss, Manley, added: “We’re looking forward to testing ourselves on Saturday.
“Although it’s an inter-club friendly I am sure there will be a good competitive edge. We’ve had a great pre-season so far. The boys have been working hard to get their fitness up after such a long break.
“It’s been great to actually train on our home pitch every week and hopefully, we can put some new things into practice in the match.”
