Ahmed Khawaja and Josh Perry both scored half-centuries as Old Southendian & Southchurch saw off Benfleet by 45 runs at Garon park to record their third Cook Division victory of the season in as many games.

Khawaja followed last weekend’s impressive unbeaten 130 with a solid 66, while wicketkeeper/batsman Perry scored 50 as the home side made a modest 213/7 Paul Frensham, 3/41, the pick of the Benfleet attack.

The visitors’ response struggled to glean momentum – Callum Wheeler top-scoring with 47, while Khawaja, 2/19, and Joe Madren, 2/24, kept the Old Boys on course to maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign.
