Old Boys make cup progress

Old Southendian & Southchurch made Dukes Essex League Cup progress with a four-wicket second-round victory over Harold Wood at the Peter Butler Oval, Garon Park.

Shahbaz Khan hit 42, and wicketkeeper/batter Craig Perrin 40 before Harold Wood was dismissed inside 43 overs for 191. Dylan Batt claimed three for 18 for the hosts, while there were two wickets apiece for Luke Clarke, Harry Clarke and Joe Madren.

The Old Boys reached their target of the penultimate ball of the forty-fourth over. Hafiz Yawer Afzal hit a half-century, while Batt underpinned with 46.

Meanwhile, Old Southendian & Southchurch’s second string took on their Harold Wood counterparts in a friendly fixture switched to Shoebury Garrison.

The visitors were all out in the thirty-ninth over for 139 – Richard Brabner top-scored with 36. Sam Hodgson claimed for 38 with the ball.

The hosts made heavy weather of the chase, but eventually reached their target to record a two-wicket success. Sandeep Muraleedharan led the way with an unbeaten half-century.
