Old Southendian & Southchurch got their competitive campaign off to a tremendous start with a resounding nine-wicket victory over local rivals, Southend On Sea & EMT at a bright and breezy Garon Park.
Having elected to take the ball, the visitors restricted SOSEMT to 152, with Head Coach and Skipper, Andy McGarry, 3/19, and Ahsan Yousaf, 3/27, leading the way, while Ahmed Khawaja picked up a couple during an otherwise tight display from the Old Boys attack.

Old Southendian reached thief target inside 28 overs with Josh Perry unbeaten on 64 and Khawaja 60* – Kyle Smith the man out, caught by wicketkeeper, Karanveer Shergill off a delivery from Steve Hunt.
Speaking to Yellow Sport at the close, McGarry enthused: “It was an encouraging performance, and we are heading in the right direction.
“A good knock from Josh to start the season, and nice to see Ahmed with some early season form, as well as the wickets being shared around.
“It was nice to have Max Craddock and Connor Mortlock back on the field with us today. and to see Jamil Ahmed play his first game for the club..
“I think we are still a little way off our best but a much-improved performance that bodes well.”
