Old Boys pick up a battling point at Sungate

Sungate 2-2 Old Southendian

Old Southendian remains at the foot of the ProKit UK Essex Olympian League Premier Division table despite battling out a spirited 2-2 draw with Sungate at Ilford Wanderers Rugby Club.

The Old Boys had the better of a scoreless opening period. But it was after the restart that they forged ahead. Nick Hennessy slipped in Craig Paton, who provided a cool finish.

Sungate made a string of changes and had soon turned the contest on its head. However, the Seasiders salvaged a share of the spoils when Jamie Oates netted from the spot following a handball infringement.

Speaking to Yellow Sport after the game, Old Boys chief, Connor Lane said: “Overall I am happy to have picked up a point away.

“With the same squad as before lockdown, we have tried to play a different way and find our identity which appears to be paying off.”
