SHEPHERD NEAME Essex League Division Two leaders, Old Southendian & Southchurch, slipped to a second successive defeat as Benfleet eased to victory at Garon Park, ensuring the host’s promotion champaign remained on ice. 

Samuel Coelho hit 87 and Ben Munday 80 as Benfleet posted 246/7 from their allocated 50 overs. Joe Madren the pick of the Old Boys attack, taking 4/60 while Ahmed Khawaja claimed 3/55.

The home sides chase never really built any momentum.  Paul Frensham proved to be the architect of their downfall taking 5/48 as they fell some way short of the target.

Aaron Lucas was the only Old Southendian batsman to score notably, reaching 33. They remain 21 points clear at the top of the table and will be looking to get back on track when they travel to South Woodford on Saturday, August 31. Meanwhile, Benfleet host Frenford at Woodside Park. Both matches start at 12:30pm.
