Old Boys provide Essex Cup upset to topple Town

Billericay Town U23 v Old Southendian – Essex Premier Cup – New Lodge – Report

Billericay Town U23 2-3 Old Southendian

Old Southendian provided a sizable Essex Premier Cup upset by dispatching Billericay Town’s under 23 side in a hugely entertaining tie at New Lodge.

The Old Boys went into the contest off the back of a notable Essex Olympian League Premier Division victory over leaders, Ongar Town last week, and they were soon at it again – Callum Ludlaim displaying pace and strength before firing the visitors ahead.

Billericay restored parity through Jamie Drake following a corner routine four minutes after the restart. However, Taylor Turner headed the Old Boys back in front midway through the half, much to the delight of the travelling contingent.

But once again, Leading marksman, Ludlaim proved to be the start of the show, adding his second of the evening, striking low into the corner of the net after some terrific hold-up play.

Billericay reduced the arrears in the final moments – Max Gnandi on target, but it was a case of too little, too late for the shellshocked hosts.

Delighted Old Boys boss, Altan Ali, told Yellow Sport: “It’s a great result, especially off the back of last week. We are building some momentum again.

“Callum took his goals well, but this was another big team effort and proves what we are capable of when we hit the ground running.”
