Old Southendian & Southchurch 2nd kept their slim hope of promotion alive with an emphatic nine-wicket triumph over their struggling Ardleigh Green & Havering-Atte-Bower counterparts at a damp Garon Park.

Sam Hodgson led the way with the ball, taking 4/36, while Henry Williams claimed 2/45 as the home side made short work of the Ardleigh Green batting order.

Skipper Martin Cason offered some resistance, hitting 40 before falling to a delivery from Williams – the visitors’ dismissed inside 38 overs for 109.

Hodgson had reached 44 before he was bowled by Billy Stanbridge. But that proved to be Ardleigh Green’s only success. Waj Ahmed finished unbeaten on 44, joined in the middle by Kaden Threadgold (16*) – the hosts roaming home with some to spare, leaving them in fourth place, twenty points off the top two.
