Sungate v Old Southendian – Essex Olympian League Premier Division – Ilford Wanderers Rugby Club – Report

Sungate 1-0 Old Southendian

Old Southendian slipped to their first Essex Olympian League Premier Division defeat in five as second-placed Sungate claimed a single-goal success in a keenly contested encounter at Ilford Wanderers Rugby Club.

Solomon Asomah provided the all-important strike during the second half. However, Old Boys’ boss, Altan Ali, praised his charges despite the setback.

“We were excellent,” he told Yellow Sport.

“We competed well in a game which could have gone either way. I can fault the effort and commitment.

“Games like this are decided on small margins. They took a chance, and we didn’t. But the performance was positive and gave us plenty to be enthusiastic over. We’ll focus on that and look to get back to winning ways next week.”
