Old Boys slip at league leaders Sungate

Sungate 1-0 Old Southendian

STRUGGLING Old Southendian produced a spirited display but ultimately ended up without reward after a Scott Truman strike midway through the opening period handed ProKit UK Essex Olympian League Premier Division leaders, Sungate, all three points at the Ilford Wanderers Ground.

Truman’s strike secured Sungate’s fifth victory on the bounce. However, they were made to work hard for their success by an Old Boys side without a win in four and currently occupying a place in the relegation zone.

Speaking to Yellow Sport after the match, Old Southendian boss, Connor Lane, explained: “It was a decent game for the neutral – tight and well-contested.

“It was a tough ask, going to the best side in the division and trying to get a positive result. However, we feel a bit deflated that we couldn’t bring something back as we had opportunities but didn’t take them.

“We now have a big game against second-placed Catholic United.
Hopefully, we can get back to winning ways and start climbing away from the foot of the table.”
