Corinthians 1-3 Old Southendian Reserves
OLD SOUTHENDIAN RESERVES honed in on the ProKit UK Essex Olympian League Division Two promotion places with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over fellow-contenders, Corinthians, at the Stambridge Memorial Ground.
In a match that ebbed and flowed, the Old Boys snatched a priceless advantage right on the stroke of half-time when Ben Franklin nodded home a Jack Paget flag-kick at the near post.
After the restart, Franklin profited from David Stubbs’ toil to double his and the visitors lead. However, Former Great Wakering Rovers man, Nathan Dewberry, reduced the arrears with a superb strike from distance to set up a grandstand finish.
But the Garon Park-based club were to have the final say and move within three points of league leaders Leigh Town. Skipper, Olly Tatton-Bennett, found the top corner of the Corinthian net from an acute angle to secure the points.
Speaking to Yellow Sport after the match, Old Boys boss, Ben Manley, enthused: “I’m delighted to come away with three points against a really strong Corinthians side.
“It was another complete performance. The back three were super, while Ben took his goals well.
“Olly (Tatton-Bennett) bossed the midfield, as he has repeatedly over the past few weeks. It was a tough, rugged match. Both sides gave their lot.”
