Old Southendian & Southchurch slipped closer to relegation after slipping to a 64-run defeat at the hands of Woodford Wells at Garon Park.

Skipper Joe Johnson hit 71 off 114 balls, while Freddie Britt was unbeaten on 70 as Woodford Wells posted a competitive 235/7 – Ahmed Khawaja again the pick of the Old Boys attack with 3/55 – Matt Austin taking 2/34.

Khawaja provided the Old Boys best opportunity with the bat. The talented Pakistani all-rounder hit 80 off 69 balls – a knock that included nine 4s and two 6s.

But whilst Jamil Ahmed chipped in with 49, the home side largely struggled. Indeed, Mohammad Aqeel (12) was the only other batsman to reach double figures.

Reeve Cyster led the way with 7/46. Woodford – just outside the dropzone – extending their advantage over the Southend-based club to 49 points.
