On the day long-serving player, Chris Bunce announced his retirement, Old Southendoan & Southchurch returned to Cook Division winning ways with a narrow success over Orsett & Thurrock at Garon Park.

Bunce has played for the Old Boys for 40-years and has impressively been a mainstay of the first XI for the past 35. Nevertheless, it was another familiar face who set the tone for their fifth victory of the campaign.

Ahmed Khawaja top-scored with 41, while Sam Hodgson chipped in with 33 as the home slide posted a modest 182 – Mark Pavitt impressing with the ball for Orsett, taking 3/21.

Bunce had scored 14 with the bat and played his part in the field, taking the catch of Kirk Laws off Matthew Austin for 44. Orsett skipper, George Pavitt got 40 but the Old Boys attack managed to apply the breaks just enough, with former Essex man, Andrew McGarry, claiming 3/22, while Austin and Khawaja took two apiece to confirm the result.

Points: Old Southendian & Southchurch 20 Orsett & Thurrock 6
