A goal from Any Elvidge secured a 1-1 draw for the Old Southendian Ladies Hockey first team with a strong Upminster side.
Speaking after the match, captain Emily Robinson, said: “It was a great team game. We fought for the entire seventy-minutes but just couldn’t get the ball in the net again to secure a win.
“Congratulations to Isha Aggarwal Stanbridge on a solid debut for the first team. Lots of positives to take from it, we are definitely working more as a unit than were at the beginning of the season which is great to see.”
Storm Jorge was unable to dampen the spirits of the Old Girls second string who saw off bottom of the table Southend & Benfleet 3rds by four unanswered goals.
Grace Jackson, Cris Liebenberg and Shireen Ayub scored before the interval. Emily McCarthy – who has been outstanding in her first full season for the club – added a fourth shortly after the restart.
Captain Ros Jackson, explained: “This was a robust performance from the team and I am delighted that we are continuing our unbeaten run.”
A tough trip to Wapping faced the Old Girls enthusiastic and youthful third team. And so it proved. The Londoners raced into a three-goal advantage before half-time. However, a rousing team talk from captain Evie Collins rallied the Seasiders troops, who produced a far tighter second-half display before going down 4-1.
