OLD SOUTHENDIAN LADIES HOCKEY first XI wrapped up their pre-Christmas programme with an impressive 4-2 victory over a stubborn Basildon side.
A chilly afternoon – a far cry from the 27-degree heat which embraced the two sides when they went head-to-head back in September – did very little to spoil an otherwise entertaining encounter.
Beccy Withams set the ball rolling for the Old Girls, while Anna Cooper bagged a brace and Player of the Match, Kate William, added another to secure maximum points.
Speaking after the game, captain, Emily Robinson, said: “This was a great way to break up for the Christmas break with spirits high and us sitting comfortably mid-table.”
It proved to be a tough afternoon for the Old Southendian second team who suffered a double-figured defeat at high-flying London Royals.
The Seasiders offered a valiant display but were no match for the impressive Royals who triumphed by twelve goals to nil.
