Old Southendian Ladies 1st XI took on Wapping 5th over the weekend, winning a thrilling encounter by four goals to three.
As always Wapping were all strong individual players who put the Seasiders through their paces.
Right-sided striker Amy Elvidge handed the Old Girls the lead after five minutes. However, Wapping fought back to establish a lead of their own before the break.
Another Wapping goal followed after the restart. But a battling performance saw Sami Da Costa strike from a short corner, then Eldridge restore parity soon after.
It had been a determined fightback from the Old Girls and with time running out, Da Costa struck the decisive goal.
The Ladies 2nd XI lost 2-1 to a strong Wapping 7th team. Despite great ball distribution from the centre the Old Girls struggled to get goals past a solid Wapping defence. Wapping’s two goals were scored from superb counter-attacking moves during the first half. Kate Ferris pulled one back for the Old Girls, while Mewiny Dharmarathna performed outstandingly on her debut at left-back.
