Old Girls too strong for beaten Brentwood

Old Southendian Ladies Hockey first XI had too much for a Brentwood side who had suffered relegation at the end of the last campaign.

The Old Girls dominated the opening period to lead 2-0 at the break. Brentwood hit back after the interval. However, the Seasiders stepped up the pace – Sami Da Costa (2), Anna Cooper and Sarah Carter scoring in a 4-2 victory.

The first team now face a top of the table clash with Havering at Warners Bridge this Saturday, October 17.

The Old Girls second string had an altogether easier afternoon, romping to a 6-0 victory over Crostyx 4ths.

Despite a slow start, the visitors’ broke the deadlock just before the break. An injury led to Crostyx playing out the game with ten players.

Becky Peters (2), Maggie Downing (2), Maddie Parker and Shireen Ayub were on target. Captain, Ros Jackson, said: “It was a very successful round trip to Chigwell. The Team listened to instructions and surpassed my expectations. It is a pleasure to lead these girls every week.”
