Leyton Orient are through to the knockout stages of the Papa John’s Trophy thanks to Paul Smyth’s late winner against London rivals, Charlton Athletic at the Breyer Group Stadium.
Smyth raced clear to score twelve minutes from time after Addicks defender, Ayodeji Elerewe had slipped. The East Londoners played out the final 24 minutes a man light after Antony Papadopoulos was shown a second yellow card.
The victory was enough to see Orient top the group and secure a home tie. They now return to Sky Bet League Two action on Saturday, November 13 when they face Rochdale at the Crown Oil Arena (3pm).
