Leyton Orient v Sutton United – Sky Bet League Two – Breyer Group Stadium – Reaction

Leyton Orient 4-1 Sutton United

Peter Kitchen called for Leyton Orient to display an altogether more ruthless streak and the former frontman got his wish as the East Londoners brushed aside Sutton United to move back into the Sky Bet League Two play-off places.

Orient recovered after Isaac Olaofe’s opener for the visitors. Theo Archibald levelled before the break, then a couple from Harry Smith and a stoppage-time Tom James effort completed a rousing success for Kenny Jackett’s men.

“Despite Sutton going into the game two points and a place above us, there was a huge gulf in class between the sides,” Kitchen told Yellow Sport.

“The O’s are coming good at exactly the right time and have produced some very impressive performances and statistics in recent weeks. Saturday’s win was our ninth game in all competitions without defeat and our fourth consecutive home win in all competitions. We have turned the Breyer Group Stadium into a bit of a fortress lately.

“After a period where goals were hard to come by, O’s have hit nine in their last two league outings, both against promotion rivals.”

Kitchen continued: “Jackett must take a lot of credit for this rich vein of form for the way he is fine-tuning the team. Gradually getting the blend and balance right between a very solid defence that is hard to break down and a creative, attacking team that is making opportunities and putting them away.

“With Drinan and Smith linking so well in attack, both scoring regularly while others are chipping in with goals as well, this team looks every bit capable of clinching promotion.

The performance sent the fans home very happy with what they are seeing. It has set us up nicely for Tuesday evenings’ trip to Scunthorpe United.

“It is a game that we are expecting to win. I’m sure that Kenny will ensure the players stay focused and that the approach is professional.

“It is an excellent opportunity for us to continue climbing up the table and putting pressure on the teams around us.”
