Papa John’s Trophy update – Regional clubs learn their opponents

The region’s football clubs have learned their 2022/23 Papa John’s Trophy group-stage opponents as West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur’s under 21 teams join Colchester United and Leyton Orient in the inaugural round of the competition.

The U’s find themselves in Group A, alongside Charlton Athletic, Gillingham and Brighton & Hove Albion U21s. Meanwhile, Orient come up against Oxford United, Sutton United and Chelsea U21s in Group G.

West Ham’s youngsters take on Cheltenham Town, Milton Keynes Dons and Walsall in Group C, while their Tottenham counterparts find themselves in Group D alongside Peterborough United, Stevenage and Wycombe Wanderers.

The Papa John’s Trophy southern section draw is as follows;

Group A: Charlton Athletic, Colchester United, Gillingham, Brighton & Hove Albion U21s

Group B: AFC Wimbledon, Crawley Town, Portsmouth, Aston Villa U21s

Group C: Cheltenham Town, Milton Keynes Dons, Walsall, West Ham United U21s

Group D: Peterborough United, Stevenage, Wycombe Wanderers, Tottenham Hotspur U21s

Group E: Bristol Rovers, Plymouth Argyle, Swindon Town, Crystal Palace U21s

Group F: Exeter City, Forest Green Rovers, Newport County, Southampton U21s
