West Ham United 2-0 Norwich City – Reaction
Turning the clock back to the start of the season, August 31, 2019, and a thoroughly decent display from West Ham to brush aside Norwich…
MANUEL PELLEGRINI was satisfied with what he saw as his West Ham United side produced a dominant display to overpower Norwich City at the London Stadium. However, the Chilean though the Hammers should have won by a far bigger scoreline.
Goals either side of the break from Sebastien Haller and Andriy Yarmolenko proved decisive but the Hammers came up an inspired Tim Krul in the Norwich goal, who made several top-class save.
“Maybe the margin could have been bigger but they have a goalkeeper that saved four or five clear chances,” Pellegrini explained.
“But for me, it was a very consistent and solid performance – playing against a team like Norwich that is an attacking team with very creative players who score lots of goals.
“They scored against Liverpool, two against Chelsea, three against Newcastle but they did not create one chance against us in ninety-minutes. In the first ten minutes, they had a lot of possession but they didn’t make any dangerous actions near or inside our box.
“We increased our pace to recover the ball, had good possession and started playing in the way I want to see this team play every game.”
Pellegrini enthused over goalscorers, Haller and Yarmolenko, particularly as the latter has fought back following a serious knee injury.
“I think that Sebastien is not just a striker – you saw his performance today, “ he continued.
“He is always working, supports the ball, made combinations with the midfield players so he is not just in the box.
