Peter Kitchen: Positivity is key if O’s are to end their winless sequence

Cambridge United v Leyton Orient – Abbey Stadium – Sky Bet League Two – Saturday 3pm

Cambridge United v Leyton Orient – Preview:

PETER KITCHEN insisted that Leyton Orient should head up the M11 on Saturday in a buoyant mood and confident they can end their recent winless Sky Bet League Two sequence at the Abbey Stadium.

Steely displays against Oldham Athletic and Bradford City have given Orient a platform as they bid to pull away from the wrong end of the table, and Kitchen believes adding a clinical edge to their game could be sufficient to overcome hosts, Cambridge United.

“Orient will have taken heart from the last two matches, which has coincided with the return of Lee Angol and Connor Wilkinson – our main goal threat,” the former frontman told Yellow Sport.

“The pair now have valuable minutes under their belt and will be keen to start finding in the net again. We have been pretty solid at the back too – I think we go there with a real opportunity to end the ten-match run without a win.”

Following a 1-1 draw at Cheltenham Town, Cambridge United – under the guidance of Colin Calderwood – sit comfortably in midtable. However, an Orient victory would take them within three points of the U’s ahead of the busy Christmas period.

“Colin was an uncompromising and combative central defender during his playing days and he has made his side difficult to break down. He was, of course, linked with the O’s job earlier in the season. His side are handily placed to get amongst the play-off hopefuls, should they string a few results together.

Kitchen added: “Cambridge are quite sound defensively – like Bradford, it could be a game of few chances. It is likely to be a close-fought contest.”

“But I think Orient displayed enough last weekend to suggest they are ready to start winning again. We will have big support at the Abbey stadium – which will be important to the team.

“Orient have reorganised as a unit. If we are brave going forward then I see no reason why we can’t bring three points back to E10.”
