Peter Kitchen: Sometimes you have to take your hat off to the opposition

Leyton Orient 1-3 Colchester United – Reaction

PETER KITCHEN reflected disappointingly on Leyton Orient’s Sky Bet League Two defeat to Colchester United but insisted the visitors deserved credit for a dominant display in E10.

The promotion-chasing U’s eased to a 3-1 success at the Breyer Group Stadium – Ruel Sotiriou’s late strike proving insufficient as the North Essex side moved into the play-off places thanks to a Theo Robison brace and another from Harry Pell.

“I mentioned before the game that Colchester are perhaps where we would like to be, and that proved to be the case,” Kitchen told Yellow Sport.

“Orient were spirited, but that was never going to be enough against a classy Colchester side who created and took their chances ruthlessly.

“We are all frustrated, particularly after the win at Cambridge United. But this simply highlights further the need to strengthen the squad and start building for the future.”

Kitchen continued: “It’s not all doom and gloom – Leyton Orient Football Club are in a healthy position, and that is the most important thing. We know the owners are ambitious. They will see this the same way. You look at the teams towards the top of the table and see how you can replicate it.

“We have no time to reflect too much. Orient head to Newport at the weekend. It’s another test and we need to regroup and be ready for it.”
