Peter Kitchen: Steely O’s are on the right track

Leyton Orient 0-0 Bradford City – Reaction

PETER KITCHEN was pleased to see Leyton Orient produce another steely display, ensuring a share of the Sky Bet League Two spoils against promotion-chasing Bradford City at The Breyer Group Stadium.

Coming off the back of a 1-1 draw at Oldham Athletic, the O’s shut out Bradford with a disciplined defensive display and will perhaps feel a little unlucky not to have snaffled all three points from an otherwise well-contested match with Connor Wilkinson hitting the frame of the goal and Lee Angol and Marvin Ekpiteta seeing effort rebuffed from the goal line.

“It was certainly a game where the defences were on top,” Kitchen told Yellow Sport.

“There were very few chances for either side, although a spirited second-half performance from Orient perhaps merited a victory?

“Despite the winless run continuing, Ross Embleton will take positives from the game. His side put in a shift and kept a clean sheet, which highlighted the basic requirements in this ruthless division.”

Kitchen continued: “We were a little unlucky in front of goal, although we need to be a little sharper in that department to start turning these draws into wins.”

On the managerial front, Kitchen said: “With no news coming out of Brisbane Road, it would appear that the owners are intending to give Ross a little longer in the hot seat.

“This makes perfect sense, particularly if he can steady the ship following the Fletcher episode. The last two matches have provided us with positive signs so perhaps rather than make a knee-jerk reaction, this is the most suitable route to take.

“This season was always going to be all about consolidation. Orient appears unlikely to finish in the top half of the table, although it would take a catastrophic sequence of results – allied with a resurgence in form from the bottom club, Morecambe – to see the O’s situation become terminal.

“The mood has lifted around Brisbane Road, both amongst the players and in the stands. I feel sure that these recent games along with the performance and attitude of the players will determine the clubs direction for the rest of this season.”
