Everton v Tottenham Hotspur – Goodison Park – Premier League – Sunday 4:30pm
Everton v Tottenham Hotspur – Preview:
Mauricio Pochettino takes his Tottenham Hotspur side back to the North-West just a week after they were beaten by the odd goal in three at Premier League title favourites, Liverpool.
The Reds recovered with goals from Jordan Henderson and Mohamed Salah, from the penalty spot, after Harry Kane had given the Spurs a first-minute lead. But following a positive week on their Hotspur Way training ground, the Argentine responded bullishly ahead of facing lowly Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.
“It was an important week to recover the feelings after a tough game against Liverpool,” Pochettino explained.
“We know very well it is our responsibility to deliver a very good job and very good performance on Sunday against a very good team like Everton trying to win because it’s going to be the best medicine to fix all.”
The struggling Toffees have won just one of their last six Premier League outings – a 2-0 victory over a lacklustre West Ham United side a fortnight ago – leaving the Merseysiders sitting just two points above the dropzone. But with Spurs misfiring in the league themselves, Pochettino urged for a positive approach from his charges.
“We need to be positive, feel that positivity and make us believe that we can beat any team,” he added.
“At the moment we struggle with our confidence, we drop a lot – that is only time. The most important thing is how we’re going to finish, it’s not this moment.”
Tottenham are still without injured duo – goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and Argentine playmaker, Erik Lamela. Danny Rose also misses the match due to suspension while Jan Vertonghen’s hamstring issue means he is also doubtful.
