Leicester City v Tottenham Hotspur – King Power Stadium – Premier League – Saturday 12:30pm
Leicester City v Tottenham Hotspur – Preview:
MAURICIO POCHETTINO was clearly frustrated after his Spurs side surrendered a two-goal advantage for the second time in three outings but insisted his tired-looking side would be ready for Saturday’s tricky Premier League trip to Leicester City.
Having let a 2-0 advantage slip against chief-rivals, Arsenal, three weeks ago, it was very much a case of Deja-Vu as the north Londoners dropped UEFA Champions League points as Olympiacos hit back to claim a share of the spoils in Athens during the week.
And despite a crushing 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace sandwiched in-between, Spurs still encounter criticism from some quarters after appearing to take their foot off the gas having scored all for goals before the interval.
“We cannot think about that – we need to be ready to compete on Saturday,” Pochettino explained.
“We can’t change, and only we can affect in a negative or positive way – if we talk too much in one or another way. I prefer to talk positive.”
Nevertheless, following a round-trip of approaching 3,000 miles for a group – many, who had just returned from international duty and further travelling – Is bound to leave the players fatigued, even at this early stage of the season.
“We have a big squad and we will assess the players and I hope to have a very good game and of course it will not be an excuse,” the Argentine continued.
“What happens, happens on Saturday morning. We need to approach the game in our best condition – and we have time to recover – and I will tell after game if I am happy or not and if we suffer with this travelling.”
Looking ahead to facing the Foxes, Pochettino added: “Leicester is a very good team with a lot of unbelievable players and after winning the Premier League they rebuild their squad and today are doing fantastic with a great manager like Brendan Rodgers, who I know very well. They are doing a fantastic job.”
