Police appeal after man assaulted in Westcliff

Police are appealing for witnesses or dash cam footage following an incident in Westcliff at the weekend.

A man in his 50s was sitting in his car with his wife in London Road, near the African Taste restaurant, on Saturday August 7.

Some time around 1:00am a man exited some nearby bushes and approached the car. He leant through an open window and held abmetal object to the man’s neck. The victim sustained minor cuts but did not need medical treatment.

The suspect then fled the scene. He is described as white, 6ft 1ins tall, wearing a baseball cap and carrying a bag. His right hand was bandaged.

DC Michael Ward, investigating, said: “I want to reassure the wider public that we believe this is a targeted attack. We are doing all we can to establish the identity of the man described, but would ask the public to come forward if they know who he is.”

Police would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw what happened and anyone with dash cam footage is asked to get in contact quoting crime reference 42/161779/21.
