Police disperse gathering at Hadleigh Castle

Police quickly enforced dispersal order powers following reports of a large group of people gathering at Hadleigh Castle this morning, Sunday June 28.

While the majority of people were co-operative, we are investigating an assault following reports a man had been hit on the head with a bottle.

He was taken to hospital after approaching officers in Castle Lane.

Sergeant Alfie McPhilimey, of Castle Point Community Policing Team, said: “We received information late yesterday about a gathering of people near to Hadleigh Castle and we used powers at our disposal to move them on.”

Overnight there was also a dispersal order in place in High Street, Leigh-on-Sea.

Fifty people were moved away from the area.

Anyone with information about the alleged assault is asked to call Basildon CID on 101 quoting crime reference 42/94316/20 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
