Police officer dismissed for gross misconduct

A serving Essex Police officer has been dismissed from the force after a panel found him to have committed gross misconduct.

Now former PC Adam Phillips was alleged to have breached police standards of professional behaviour in fitness for duty and discreditable conduct.

Ex-PC Phillips had been required to provide a sample for a drugs test in September 2021 which was found to contain anabolic steroids. Each of the steroids identified were, and remain, Class C drugs.

When the sample results were returned, he was suspended from duty.

The investigation into ex-PC Phillips was directed by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

The allegations were heard by a conduct panel, chaired by the independent and legally qualified chair David Tyme, which sat at Chelmsford Civic Centre from March 20-22

The panel found the allegations to be proven and ex-PC Phillips was dismissed from the force.

He will also be added to the College of Policing barred list.
