Local elections will be held in Essex on May 4, where voters will have the opportunity to decide who represents them in their local councils.

A third of the councillors in Brentwood Borough Council are up for election.

The council is currently being run with a Conservative majority of two.

There are 19 Conservative members, 14 Lib Dem members, two Labour and one Independent.

The most common way to vote is by going down to your local polling station, usually community buildings such as churches, schools or village halls where voting takes place, on the day.

If you’re registered to vote, you will receive a polling card before the election, which will tell you which polling station you should go to.
