Jimmy Neesham hit an explosive half-century as Essex Eagles got off to a T20 Vitality Blast winning start against Somerset at Taunton.
Neesham’s 53 came off 25 balls, while Paul Walter’s 45 came off 30, helping the visitors’ secure an impressive victory after an indifferent start.
Earlier, Jack Plom conceded 33 off the third over as Somerset – inspired by James Hildreth – got off to a flyer. Hildreth hit 39 from 17, while Ben Green was unbeaten on 43 as the hosts posted a competitive 185/7 – Sam Cook with 3/14, Plom recovering with 2/51.
Scotsman, Josh Davey did his utmost to stem the Essex tide with 3/39. However, Plom’s evening continued to turn favourable as he hit the Scotsman for six off the penultimate ball of the nineteenth over to see Essex over the line.
