Dagenham & Redbridge’s match with Stockport County at Edgeley Park was called off along with several other matches involving clubs from the north and south of the country due to a serious incident on the West Coast Mainline which resulted in the tragic death of one person, preventing train departures from London Euston Station.

The incident, close to Milton Keynes on Saturday morning, also saw Dover Athletic’s match at Barrow and Sutton United’s clash with AFC Fylde cancelled.

Vanarama National League South

It proved to be a tough afternoon for the regions Nationa South clubs. Dave Wingfield scored a late consolation for Chelmsford City but the Clarets slipped to their first home defeat of the campaign as in-form Wealdstone claimed the points with a 3-1 success.

Adam Mills was on target for Braintree Town in their 5-1 hammering at Tonbridge Angels, while Concord Rangers also suffered a frustrating reverse as went down by a goal to nil against Chippenham Town at the Aspect Arena.

Billericay Town was also beaten. Odysseus Alfa scoring a late consolation for Jamie O’Hara’s men in a 3-1 defeat at Slough Town.

Buildbase FA Trophy Preliminary Round

Basildon United made FA trophy progress with an exciting 3-2 success at fellow BetVictor Isthmian League North outfit, Brentwood Town. Adam Vyse, Ayomikun Odukoya and Kurt Smith found the net for the Bees – Michael Toner and Jason Williams with the Brentwood response.

Barking saw off Gurnsey by the odd goal in three at Mayesbrook Park. Abs Seymour and Michael Dixon scoring either side of a Ross Allen strike for the Channel Islanders.

Tilbury thrashed Waltham Abbey 6-2 at Chadfields. Brian Moses and Oliver Spooner both bagged a brace, while Darren Phillips and Calvin Ekpiteta completed the rout – Leonne McKenzie and Billy Holland finding some consolation for the visitors.

There was an incredible encounter at Burroughs Park. Jake Gordon scored twice for hosts, Great Wakering Rovers – one from the penalty spot – and there was a late third from Jon Benton. But it proved to be insufficient as visitors, Westfield, won 5-3, largely thanks to a hat-trick from Aaron Watson. Grays Athletic also crashed out, going down 3-0 at home to Bedfont Sports, while Romford lost 2-1 at Whitehawk – an own-goal from Matias Torres had provided the east Londoners with hope.

Buildbase FA Trophy First Qualifying Round

Four goals from Charlee Hughes helped Maldon & Tiptree to a 5-2 win over Cray Valley Paper Mills at the Maldon Stadium – Jorome Slew with the Jammers other strike. Meanwhile, Jack Adlington-Pile scored twice as Heybridge Swifts won by two unanswered goals at Staines Town, while Canvey Island will try again after Jason Hallett and a Kane Gilbert penalty saw the Gulls draw 2-2 at Ashford Town (Middlesex).

BetVictor Isthmian League Premier Division

Chris Dickson’s penalty and a last-minute Matt Johnson goal saw Hornchurch come from behind to take the points against Bowers & Pitsea at Bridge Avenue. Max Cornhill had given Bowers the lead on the stroke of half-time in front of a bumper Non-league Day crowd of 435.

Mitchell Gilbey’s first-half goal earned East Thurrock United a 1-0 win over Lewes. And it was the same outcome at Coles Park where Haringey Borough saw off Margate thanks to a Romoluwa Akinola goal. Bishop’s Stortford beat high-flying Horsham by two goals to nil – Jordan Chiedozie and William Mycroft-Edwards doing the damage for the home side, while Billy Hunt’s late equaliser salvaged a point for Brightlingsea Regent as they drew 1-1 with Wingate & Finchley.

Essex Senior League

League leaders, Hashtag United, were in sparkling form, beating Hoddesdon Town by six goals to two at the Stewart Edwards Stadium. Ross Gleed scored twice, while Harry Honesty, Jesse Lassen, George Smith and Luke Wilson were also on target.

Tower Hamlets were too strong for Southend Manor, winning 4-1 at Southchurch Park. Meanwhile, West Essex triumphed 3-0 at Sawbridgeworth Town and St Margaretsbury saw off Sporting Bengal United 2-1.

ProKit UK Essex Olympian League

Leigh Ramblers enjoyed a thumping 4-0 Premier Division victory over Basildon Town at Balfairs Park, while Sungate was also amongst the goals, beating Harold Wood Athletic 4-1. Elsewhere in the top division, Canning Town won 3-2 at Bishop’s Stortford Swifts.

Old Chelmsfordians won a thrilling Division One clash with Chingford Athletic by four goals to two at Lawford Lane, while FC Hamlets were 3-1 winners over Runwell Sports. Ramsden Scotia and Ongar Town both enjoyed 2-1 successes – Scotia over Toby and Town at Manford way.

Plenty of goals in Division Two. Beacon Hill Rovers thrashed Ryan 5-1, while Laindon Orient were 4-1 winners over AS Rawreth and Leigh Town 4-2 over Rochford Town. Harold Wood Athletic Reserves also hit four, beating their May & Baker Eastbrook Community counterparts 4-0.

Canning Town Reserves were 5-1 winners over Laindon Orient’s second string in Division Four, while in Division Five, Collier Row won 16-1 at Wakering Sports ‘A’.

Essex Junior Trophy

Bowers & Pitsea under 23’s emphatically dispatched Rochford Town Reserves by eleven goals to nil at the Rochford Recreation Ground. Roydon were 6-1 winners over Shenfield AFC Reserves, while Shoebury Town ‘A’ won 5-1 against White Ensign seconds and Wakebury 5-0 over Forest Glade.

Basildon Town Reserves won 7-3 at Rochford Town ‘A’ while Old Southendian ‘A’ slipped out after going down 2-1 to Leigh Town Reserves.
